Benefits of face oil in your skincare regime

Research over the years has shown that face oils are used for several kinds of skin therapy. Each oil has unique and specific compounds like anti-bacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties, which help fix the skin barrier disruption.

Your outer layer of the skin, called the Stratum Corneum, is made of fatty acids, cholesterol, and ceramides. They are essential to forming an effective skin barrier that prevents water loss.

A damaged skin barrier enables the entry of irritants, allergens, and microbes that result in skin irritation. Oils improve the hydration of the Stratum Corneum by sealing the skin and limiting the escape of water, which leads to a smooth and flexible skin texture.

What oil is best for your skin type?

Each oil varies in the Linoleic and Oleic ratio. Oils with a higher Linoleic percentage have better barrier repair potential, while oils high in Oleic Acid can regulate the natural lipid barrier. Linoleic Acid is essential for your skin. A deficiency of Linoleic Acid leads to a damaged skin barrier. It can‘t be produced from our body; therefore, we have to apply it topically. While Oleic Acid is naturally generated by the human body and is known as an omega-9 fatty acid.

People with dry skin benefit from oils rich in Oleic Acid, while people with oily skin will experience more benefits by using oils rich in Linoleic Acid.
